PENZANCE 6 BOVEY TRACEY 0
(Nigel Call)
Bovey Tracey made the 108 mile long trek to the nostalgic Penlee Park, but the journey would seem a lot longer on the way home, when on a day England suffered badly in the cricket, Bovey were hit for a six of there own. Within the first minute, the hosts found themselves 1 up when Bradley Wills bundled the ball past Tom Buckler, who incidentally had only arrived at the ground 5 minutes earlier after being delayed. Bovey nearly found themselves back in the game on 12 minutes when Hayden Roes long range lob eluded Danny Burrows in the Penzance goal only to hit the crossbar. As the game ebbed and flowed from one end to the other, Bovey found themselves under increasing pressure down the flanks as Penzance looked to expose both the young fullbacks. Tom Buckler in the Bovey goal was doing his best to keep Bovey in the game, but unfortunately on 35 minutes he was beaten for the 2nd time when Captain Ben Williams header from a corner was adjudged to have crossed the line. Boveys right flank was again exposed on 41 minutes as Jamie Thirkle broke threw and hammered home a low drive under Buckler, the lead was extended on the stroke of half time as this time a cross from the opposite side of the pitch allowed Jamie Thirkle to head home for his 2nd of the day. Bovey opening the 2nd half in a spirited style as Ben Head stabbed the ball onto the Penzance crossbar, but from then on it was a damage limitation exercise. On 51 minutes Penzance took there goal tally to 5, as Ben Head was turned inside out by Lewis Caspell on the edge of the box giving Bradley Wills his 2nd. Boveys misery was compounded on 86 minutes when Dan Taylor pulled back substitute Rob Stapleton in the box which left experienced referee Ian Roberts with no option to point to the spot and produce a yellow card to Taylor and with it being his 2nd, Bovey were reduced to 10 men. With both Wills and Thirkle on 2 goals each, the opportunity of a hat trick fell to Wills who made no mistake as he fired the ball past Buckler to complete the scoring. REPORTERS SUMMARY: Despite losing influential midfielders Danny Cummins and Steve Burt, Penzance belied there lowly position and put on a six star show which was orchestrated as always by the experienced Wayne Quinn. Bovey have lost more experienced players and it showed, but they should be comfortable with the points already on the board as they look to rebuild towards next season

LIVERTON UNITED 4 AXMINSTER TOWN 0
(Phil Hiscox)
East Division leaders Liverton United took full advantage of Exmouths postponement at Crediton and Stoke Gabriels shock home defeat to move 6 and 9 points respectvely ahead of their nearest rivals, all 3 clubs also now having played the same 21 games. Bottom club Axminster Town however did not make it easy for the Halford based hosts as they restricted Liverton to just one goal in the opening half with Robbie Bowker heading home Steve Mason's cross midway through the half. The start of the second period however saw Liverton up their game and effectively seal the win with 3 goals in ultra quick succession in the 51st, 54th and 56th minutes. Robbie Bowker from the penalty spot made it 2-0 before Shane Shobbrook scored from an acute angle to make it 3 and the final goal came from a Tom Sercombe header. The final half hour saw the visitors regain some composure and other than a Joe Bushin effort that hit the post they managed to avoid slipping any more goals. Reporters Summary : Liverton were either complacent or out fought in the opening period but once they got their teeth into the visiting Tigers the form book was restored.
Premier Division :
Whisper it quietly, but was this the weekend that made the title chase a three horse race ? Fridays night win for Buckland Athletic away at St Austell couple with away wins on Saturday afternoon for both Bodmin Town and Falmouth Town look like a distinct advantage for this trio. Bodmin Town had a hard fought 3-2 win away at Saltash United despite the Ashes having taken the lead through Darren Hicks, making his 2nd debut of the season for the Kimberley club ! Bodmin collected maximum points despite also having boss Darren Gilbert again sent to the stands for comments to the referee. Falmouth Town had a less compulsive but still credible win as they won 2-0 at leaders Launceston and even had the luxury of missing a late penalty. This was the Clarets first home league defeat of the campaign. The only other top 6 side in action today were Liskeard Athletic who ran out 3-0 winners away at Torpoint Athletic to stay in 6th but move level on points with Saltash. Lower down the table both bottom sides lost with the Royal Marines going down 5-1 away at Witheridge who climb themselves two places to 12th and St Blazey stay in the drop zone after going down 1-0 at home to Elburton Villa. The days biggest Premier winners were Penzance as the Penlee club scored 6 times without reply against visitors Bovey Tracey. Previous to this afternoon the Magpies had netted just 19 goals in 23 league outings !
Division One East :
Liverton United are 6 points clear at the top after their 4-0 win at home to bottom side Axminster Town, closest rivals Exmouth Town saw their game at Crediton United postponed whilst 3rd placed Stoke Gabriel were beaten 3-2 at home by a Sidmouth Town side who have collected their biggest scalp of their maiden season at this level. Alphington who were 5th, travelled to 4th placed Okehampton Argyle, with the Alphas travelling back down the A30 having swapped places with their hosts thanks to a 2-1 win at Simmons Park. Teignmouth also enjoyed the journey home as they won 3-2 away at Appledore and they now sit in 7th spot. In fact it was quite a day for away teams as Newton Abbot Spurs were 3-1 winners at Totnes & Dartington whilst Budleigh Salterton won 1-0 away at the University of Exeter. One club who did enjoy home comforts though were Exeter Civil Service who notched a 1-0 home win over lowly Ottery St Mary at Foxhayes.
Division One West :
Leaders Newquay needed a late 85th minute winner to see off the determined resistance of Foxhole Stars at Mount Wise this afternoon but the win when it came still enabled the Peppermints to extend their lead at the top to 15 points as 2nd placed Vospers Oak Villa were without a game. Helston Athletic climbed into 2nd spot themselves after winning 4-1 away at Plymstock United on one of the new clubs longest away trips. Godolphin Atlantic stay in 4th with a 2-0 home win over visiting Hayle whilst Penryn Athletic retain 5th spot, though now only on goal difference, after they were held to a goalless draw away at Wadebridge Town, the only draw in the entire league this weekend. Dobwalls moved level on points with Penryn as they beat bottom club Mousehole 7-0 for the highest score of the day. Two sides in the bottom half gained useful away wins with Callington Town 4-0 winners away at Perranporth and Holsworthy enjoyed their first visit to St Dennis as the Magpies won 4-2 at Boscawen Park.

ST AUSTELL 1 BUCKLAND ATHLETIC 3
(Phil Hiscox)
A record attendance for a Premier Division fixture of 556 were at Poltair tonight to see the first game under floodlights at this venerable old ground. The damp weather and heavy conditions didn't help but the superb organisation of the St Austell club meant the night went well and they were able to show off their latest ground improvements. As for the match itself, the visiting Buckland Athletic side ran out 3-1 winners although the result was never certain until the latter stages of a keenly contested match. The visitors opened the scoring on 29 minutes when Antony Lynch found space in the box and fired home for the only goal of the first half. After the break it was St Austell that started brightest and they forced a leveller 12 minutes into the second half with Will Tinsley striking low from 10 yards. The visitors took just 9 minutes to restore the lead with Lynch again on target and the game was made safe 19 minutes from time when substitute Gavin Hammon made it 3-1. Reporters Summary : A night when both clubs can be happy, for St Austell a record crowd and the income that brings and for Buckland 3 hard earnt away points.

Throgmorton Cup 3rd Round
STOKE GABRIEL 0 PENZANCE 2
(Phil Hiscox)
Penzance booked themselves a place in the last 8 of the league cup, and a short quarter final trip to Falmouth Town next month, with a deserved 2-0 win at East side Stoke Gabriel. After a pretty even first half where scoring chances were at a premium the game came to life early in the second half when Lewis Caspell shot home from the edge of the box to give the Magpies a 49th minute lead. The visitors thought they had doubled the advantage after 62 minutes when Wayne Quinn scored direct from a 25 yard free kick from out on the left but the referee disallowed the strike as he had given the free kick as indirect. Penzance need not have worried though as 10 minutes later a well worked move between Caspell and Chris Pugh set up Jamie Thirkle to volley home from close range and seal there place in the quarter finals. Reporters Summary : After a first half which gave few clues as to which was the stronger team the visitors deserved the win for a much better 2nd half display.

EXMOUTH TOWN 0 LIVERTON UNITED 1
(Mark Hayman)
This eagerly awaited top of the table East clash was ruined as a spectacle by the strong wind blowing directly off of the River Exe that ensured chances were few and far between for 2 sides that had scored 119 league goals between them thus far. After a sterling 2nd half performance in the midweek Throgmorton Cup defeat at Liskeard Athletic, Jody Bolts Town were looking to leap-frog their South Devon rivals to top the division for the first time all season. However it was not to be and the all important goal came 6 minutes before the interlude, from the halfway line Shane Shobrookes free kick into the penalty area looked to be heading harmlessly out for a goal kick. Under little pressure Town defender Andy Jones decided to head the ball back into the danger area where Glenn Palmer was unmarked and he guided a header past the home stopper much to his team mates and his own surprise. With both defences to the fore there were meagre goal scoring chances although United were indebted to Simon Laughton 2 minutes from time as Kyle Bassestts goal bound shot looked to have salvaged a point but the central defender hooked his leg around the ball to direct it onto the post from on the goal line before the ball was scrambled to safety. Reporters Summary: Because of the weather it was a disappointing spectacle for a well attended encounter and for Exmouth a 4th home defeat of the campaign could well be costly, as for United they have put the retention of their title firmly in their own hands with games against their nearest challengers rapidly running out and 3 of their next 4 league games being against the bottom two sides.

OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE 2 EXETER CIVIL SERVICE 1
(Nigel Call)
It was a tale of two halves at a blustery Simmons Park, where this seasons surprise package met a previous division winner. All 3 goals were scored at the clubhouse end of the ground which Okehampton attacked in the first half. A scrappy opening 15 minutes saw neither side take control on a heavy pitch, and when the opening goal arrived on 18 minutes it was Okehampton who took the lead. Will Hawking looked to have taken the ball too far and not used the easy option of a pass, but he turned back on himself, to shoot low pass the out stretched arm of Gibbons in the Civil goal and into the bottom of the right hand side of the net. The goal seemed to rejuvenate Civil who pressed Okehampton back and were unfortunate not to gain an equaliser, on 26 minutes Taylors shot was saved, a minute later Densham headed over and on the half hour, Taylor again, saw his long range effort hit the right hand post. With Civil in the ascendency, the inevitable happened, on 35 minutes Luke Alden on the left hand side for Okehampton beat his player on the edge of the box and despite his cross being met by a Civil defender, the header fell straight to Hawking who fired the ball into the roof of the net. Again the start of the 2nd half mirrored the start of the first with neither side showing the initiative to take control, and when Civils goal arrived on 65 minutes, it was the case of being handed to them rather than creating, Gerring in the Okey goal handled poorly from a cross and the ball fell kindly to Densham to reduce the arrears. Okehampton should have put the game out of reach on 70 minutes Squire and Hawking combined well, only for Hawking to produce a shot that would not looked out of place on the adjacent rugby pitch. On 77 minutes Okehampton had appeals for a penalty turned away and two minutes later on 79, Youldens long range effort went wide as Gibbons in the civil goal went walkabout. REPORTERS SUMMARY: Despite dominating long periods of play, Civil lacked the killer instinct upfront and often found the ball back down their throats very quickly. Okey, ground out a result where a draw might have been a fairer reflection on the game. However with 10 games to go and 7 of them against promotion hopefuls, the end of the season will be interesting at Okey as they look to stay in the prize money placings.
Cornwall Senior Cup :
Seven of the Eight 3rd Round ties were completed today with Camelford against Porthleven being postponed until next weekend. Five of the seven winners came from the Premier Division with holders Bodmin Town leading the way with a 2-0 win away at Combination side St Just. Adam Carter and Danny O'Hagan scoring against the hosts who finished the game with 9 men. Saltash United were one of four sides to win away at West Division opposition with the Ashes 5-1 winners are neighbours Callington Town. Liskeard Athletic won a 2nd Cup tie in a week as they followed up Tuesday nights league cup win over Exmouth Town witha 3-0 County Cup win at Foxhole Stars today. St Austell edged a local derby away at St Dennis by just the 1 goal to nil and completing the quartet were Falmouth Town who needed extra time before winning 2-1 away at Godolphin Atlantic. Just Two West sides progressed with Truro City Reserves also the only giant-killers of the day as they won 1-0 away at Premier side Torpoint Athletic, they are joined in the next riound by Penryn Athletic who made short work of Combination side Illogan by beating them 5-1 at Kernick.
Premier Division :
With many sides on cup duty and the postponement of Ivybridge v Witheridge just 4 top flight games were played. Buckland Athletic were the big winners as they won 8-1 at the Royal Marines with Antony Lynch bagging a hat-trick as his charges climbed to 4th in the table. Plymouth Parkways hopes of making up ground were dealt a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Dartmouth whilst Tavistock got back to winning ways after Wednesday nights defeat at Bodmin to beat Cullompton Rangers 4-1 at Langsford Park today. Elburton Villa needed a late, late goal to get all 3 points as they won 1-0 at Bovey Tracey with the all important goal coming in stoppage time.
Division One East :
With Liverton United winning at 2nd placed Exmouth Town the reigning Champions are 3 points clear of the field. Stoke Gabriel were on Cup duty but the sides in 4th, 5th and 6th all played and all won with Okehampton still in 4th after a 2-1 home win over Exeter Civil Service, Alphington remain in 5th as they to had a 2-1 home win, in their case against Totnes & Dartington and Galmpton stay in 6th after winning 3-1 away at Sidmouth Town. Crediton United climbed a place to 7th after winning 3-0 away at Ottery St Mary and two sides climbed into the top 10 as Teignmouth won 2-1 at the University of Exeter to move into 8th and Appledore are 10th after a 2-1 home win over bottom side Axminster Town.
Division One West :
With cup duty their were just 4 West Division games this weekend but the top 2 in the table both played. Newquay are now a massive 14 points clear after a quick-fire double over Holsworthy, having won at Upcott Field last Saturday they beat the Magpies 2-1 at Mount Wise ina re-arranged game today. Vospers Oak Villa were 6-0 winners away at bottom side Mousehole to move above Helsron and into 2nd spot. Dobwalls climbed into the Top 6 with a 3-1 victory at lowly Perranporth and Wadebridge Town continued their recent upturn in form with a 4-1 home win over Plymstock United at Bodieve Park.

BODMIN TOWN 6 TAVISTOCK 1
(Phil Hiscox)
Bodmin Town narrowed the gap to leaders Launceston down to just 5 points, with half a dozen games in hand, after cruising to a 6-1 win over Tavistock on a very heavy Priory Park pitch. Tavvy had beaten Bodmin earlier in the season but any chance of a rare double was unlikely as early as the 4th minute when Chris Luxton opened the scoring. Neil Slateford made it 2-0 but on the stroke of half time an acute angled shot from Dan Pethick reduced the arrears. The second half saw Bodmin run in four goals without reply as Neil Slateford scored his 2nd on the hour followed by Sam Matthews netting after 77 minutes and two late goals from substitute Adam Carter and lastly Slateford who claimed a hat-trick made the points safe. Reporters Summary : Credit to both teams for trying to play football on a very heavy pitch but it was the home side who always carried the threat going forward.
Tuesday 17th January
Throgmorton Cup Action :
Tuesday night saw two more 3rd Round ties resolved meaning 6 of the last 8 in the Cup are now known and the draw was also made at Lux Park, Liskeard, as the Cup reaches the latter stages. Before the draw was made two more sides won through as Cullompton Rangers beat Elburton Villa 4-1 at Speeds Meadow in an all Premier clash that saw Brett Worbey score twice for the home side. At Liskeard it was a Premier versus East Division clash with Liskeard winning through 2-0. Demetri Kanakh opened the scoring with a cheeky back heel on 36 minutes and Jamie Evans finished off a free kick routine that must have been perfected on the training ground on the stroke of half time. The lower division side were far from disgraced however and largely bossed the second half but despite lots of forward play they were unable to breach the home defence. After the results were known the quarter final draw was made at Liskeard with league vice-chairman Mike Pett pulling out the home balls and Liskeard boss Darren Edwards the away teams. Former winners Bodmin Town and Buckland Athletic were kept apart but both received home draws, Bodmin will entertian Cullompton Rangers whilst Buckland will entertain either Crediton United or Launceston. Falmouth Town also have a home draw but they must wait to see if its a local derby with Penzance or a first ever visit to Bickland Park for East side Stoke Gabriel. Liverton United who beat Premier opposition to reach the last 8 have a home tie with Liskeard Athletic having to travel to Halford.

MOUSEHOLE 3 PERRANPORTH 1
(Mark Hayman)
A 2nd personal visit of the season to the delightful surroundings of Trungle Parc and pleased to witness Mousehole collect their first points of the season with a thoroughly deserved 3-1 victory over fellow strugglers Perranporth at the basement of the West Division. Goals were seemingly guaranteed with this seasons combined League and Throgmorton Cup record of the pair being 41 played and 192 conceded and a crowd of 43 saw that become 193 with the visitors going in front with 16 on the clock when Andy Miles 30 yard free kick took a decisive deflection to wrong foot the home stopper and at that point it looked a familiar fate was in store for Darren Woodards battle hardened troops. However as the half wore on, the Seagulls grew in confidence against the stiff wind blowing in across Paul cricket square and they more than held their own, although quality was in short supply, determination and commitment as ever from these two, was not. Within 3 minutes of the restart and a free kick from even further out than the opener, from Mouseholes Brian Jenkin, was aided by the elements that were now on their side and although Perran stopper Ben Mitchell looked to have everything covered, the ball flashed past him to give the home side a foothold back in the encounter and an unwanted record for the men in blue as they became the first side in the league this season to concede three figures in League games - a legacy of a poor start to the season unfortunately. Just 14 minutes later and a rare Peninsula game taste of being in front was the strange scenario Mousehole found themselves in and it had an air of comedy about it, Luke Knowles effort had 'wide of the target' written all over it until the rear end of full back Mark Trevail intervened to send Mitchell the wrong way, Knowles claimed Trevail should literally go down as an ass-ist, 'butt' in fairness to the full back who looked like he was slow getting back from the last attack ! It was the balding Trevails posterior that had the final touch and goes down as his rare effort. The cherry on the cake came 13 minutes from the end and settled the nerves of the long suffering Trungle faithful as a precise through ball from Will Helstone saw Ollie Pridham canter forward, draw Mitchell and slide the ball home before being engulfed by his team mates as victory looked to be in the bag. Having seen the Throgmorton Cup 1st Round tie earlier in the season, when Perran were in a similar position with 8 to go and lost 3-4, no one was taking anything for granted but home defence rarely looked like being breached as they comfortably held on to not only register their 1st points of the season but at the same time move to within 2 of their opponents. Reporters Summary : The League isn't just about the top clubs in the Premier Division, it is about all 54 of them and although the same skill levels seen at other grounds today weren't evident, clubs like Mousehole and Perranporth are integral parts of our set up and well worth the 220 mile round trip to watch them both. Well done to Mousehole, good win and even better long term news for us as a league and for Perranporth, recent signs of a revival weren't on show today but things can and surely will get better, keep up the good work both clubs, its appreciated.

VOSPERS OAK VILLA 6 ST DENNIS 1
(Phil Hiscox)
Vospers Oak Villa turned in the highest scoring performance of the weekend as they rattled in 6 past a St Dennis side making their first appearance at Weston Mill. The win keeps the Plymouth hosts in 3rd spot and narrows the gap on 2nd placed Helston to just 2 points with 4 games in hand, more importantly they remain the only serious challengers to leaders Newquay in the title race. Vospers took just 3 minutes to open the scoring as Stuart Fort fired home and by the 12th minute the lead was doubled as James Hoblin fired home. After that the first half produced little action as the visitors steadied the ship to reach the interval no further behind and still in with a chance. However the start of the 2nd half was if anything more explosive than the start of the first half as Villa hit 3 goals without reply inside 18 minutes to lead 5-0 by the 63rd. Joe Jasper was the main man as he netted both the 3rd and 4th goals before Jason Beynon headed in a goalmouth scramble. Lee Rickard pulled one back for the visitors in the 71st minute but that was to be only a consolation as Villa rounded the game off with substitute Ashley Piggott marking his debut following his move from Saltash United with the 6th goal nine minutes from time. Reporters Summary : Vospers shared the scoring around with 5 different names on the result sheet in a real team-performance.
Carlsberg SW Peninsula Division 1 East
TEIGNMOUTH 3 OTTERY ST MARY 1
(Nigel Call)
Teignmouth consolidated there mid table position with a reverse of the result earlier in the season. Ottery will look back on early missed chances which may have seen them record just a 2nd victory of the season. Ottery started the brighter of the teams with Down up front looking lively, it was indeed Down who wasted 2 early chances on 26 when a far post header went begging from a right hand cross and again on 29 when an edge of the box shot with a little bit more conviction might have troubled Moyse in the Teignmouth goal. As the game was nearing the half time whistle, Down again on 40 minutes flashed a shot across the Teignmouth goalmouth and instead of going in level at half time, Ottery, within 5 minutes found themselves 2 down in similar circumstances. With 41 minutes on the clock and being on the back foot for much of the early part of the game, Teignmouth gained a corner on the right hand side which Brown connected to at the far post to score with an unchallenged header. Within 3 minutes and on 44, but from the opposite side, this time Brown was challenged to meet the ball and Adam Fay laid claim to the goal. Teignmouth, extended there lead on 48 with the goal of the game, Mardell cut back in from the left side to fire a right footed shot into the top right hand corner, beyond Slark in the Ottery goal. Ottery continued to look to get something out of the game, and the consolation goal came on 55 when Teignmouth failed to deal with a simple free kick into the area and Ottery captain Sanders lofted the ball into the roof of the net. Neither side really took control of the latter stages with an Eves strike on 76 for Teignmouth which was pushed over the crossbar the only notable effort from two evenly matched sides. REPORTERS SUMMARY: All 3 goals came within 15 minutes either side of half time, in a game which either side could have laid claim too. The difference? a bit of experience on Teignmouths side in the shape of Geoff Breslan who controlled everything that Teignmouth created or for a lot of the game defended. Ottery, will get more points this season if they believe it!
Throgmorton Cup :
Bodmin Town booked themselves a place in the last 8 of the league cup with an injury time winner to knock out the holders Plymouth Parkway. Bodmin had taken the lead in the first half only for the visitors to level after the break but they were then reduced to 10 men as Dennis Mason was sent off and the home side ensured the numerical advantage was used to avoid the tie going into extra time as they scored the winner during stoppage time at the end of 90 minutes.
Premier Division Round Up :
With two of the title contenders on Cup duty, reigning Champions Buckland Athletic took the opportunity to remind all challengers that they are very much still in the race for the title. Buckland travelled to a saltash side who had lost just twice all season and had won at Falmouth only last week and the South Devon side romped to a 5-1 success over the Ashes, also avenging a defeat of the same scoreline at Kimberley Stadium last season. Falmouth Town bounced back from last weekends defeat to beat Torpoint Athletic 3-0 at Bickland Park but they remain 8 points behind leaders Launceston who edged home 3-2 away at lowly Ivybridge Town to keep the Clarets on top of the table for some time to come yet ! Elsewhere St Austell played their last game as a non-floodlit club as they beat Elburton Villa 1-0 at Poltair in the shadow of the new lights that have been erected this week and Cullompton Rangers recorded their 5th league win of the campaign, but their first at Speeds Meadow since last season with a notable 3-1 verdict over Liskeard Athletic. Both occupants of the relegation positions lost today as the Royal Marines went down 0-3 at home to Camelford at Endurance Park whilst St Blazey lost 3-2 away at Dartmouth. Two sides in the bottom third did record wins though as Penzance beat Tavistock 1-0 at Penlee Park and Witheridge climbed a place to 14th after winning 2-1 away at Bovey Tracey.
Division One East Round-Up
The entire Top 4 not only played but also all won today to leave the title race in the East Division close and exciting. Leaders Liverton United bounced back from last weekends defeat at the University to beat Appledore 2-0 at home this week and reach 46 points. Exmouth Town are on the same 46 point mark after a win today that also saw them improve their goal difference with a 5-0 success away at bottom side Axminster Town. Stoke Gabriel are just 3 points behind in 3rd spot after a 2-1 win over dark-horses Crediton United who lost for just the 4th time this season. Completing the quartet are Okehampton Argyle who edgeda 7 goal thriller to beat Totnes & Dartington 4-3 at Simmons Park. With 5th placed Alphington without a game Galmpton United in 6th spot closed the gap to 2 points with a 3-1 home win over the University of Exeter meaning just two sides outside the top 6 picked up any points today. Budleigh Salterton were 1-0 winners at home to Newton Abbot Spurs and climbed a place to 11th whilst Teignmouth moved up one place to 12th after a 3-1 win at home to Ottery St Mary.
Division One West Round Up :
Drama at the Top & Bottom of the table today as leaders Newquay had to come from behind to win 4-1 away at Holsworthy to extend their lead to 12 points whilst 54 points lower, but equally delighted are Mousehole who recorded their very first league win of the season, at the 18th time of asking, with a 3-1 verdict at home to Perranporth. Inbetween Newquay and Mouseholes wins were just 3 other victors. Vospers were 6-1 winners at home to St Dennis to stay in the totle race, Penryn Athletic won 2-0 at home to Dobwalls to retain 5th spot and Plymstock United climbed a place to 8th after a 3-0 home win over Porthleven. Three other matches ended in score draws with Helston Athletic only retaining 2nd spot after two late goals gave them a 2-2 draw with Wadebridge Town. It was also 2-2 at Mill Marsh Park where Callington Town and Hayle drew with each other and it was a 1-1 scoreline at Godolphin Atlantic who shared the spoils with visitors Truro City.

LAUNCESTON 1 BODMIN TOWN 3
(Phil Hiscox)
Holders Bodmin Town became the 16th and final club to reach the 3rd round of the Cornwall Senior Cup after a hard fought 3-1 win away at Launceston this evening. The win sets them up with an away trip to combination league side St Just later this month. On a heavy Pennygillam pitch both sides gave it their all in front of a healthy crowd of 172. Bodmin struck first when Adam Carter shot the visitors into an 18th minute lead and matters got worse for the hosts a quarter of an hour later when they were reduced to 10 men as Callum Martindale picked up a 2nd yellow card. The 10 men however finished the half strongly and levelled 4 minutes before the break through a powerful Mark Reckless header. The holders restored their lead 18 minutes into the second period as Danny O'Hagan scored from close range but it was not until very late on that the game was made safe. Adam Yeo wasgiven a straight red card 2 minutes from time after appearing to stamp on Chris Luxton and with just 9 men on the field they were powerless to stop Ollie Brokenshire scoring to make it 3-1 on the stroke of full time. Reporters Summary : A hard fought Cup clash which went the way of the side who managed to keep 11 men on the pitch.

IVYBRIDGE TOWN 1 CAMELFORD 1
(Phil Hiscox)
Ivybridge Town staged just their 5th home league game of the season and collected a valuable point in the process as they drew 1-1 with visitors Camelford. The new Erme Valley pitch is taking some time to settle in and this was the first action on it since November and even then referee Greame Martin only passed it fit for play late on as it was very heavy in places. The visitors struck first with Josh Insley heading Camelford into an 8th minute lead but their chances of collecting a win were hampered 10 minutes later when goal-keeper Josh Colwill went off after feeling unwell and he was replaced between the sticks by defender and club captain Dan Balsdon. The sight of an outfield player in goal meant the home forwards adopted a shoot on sight policy for a while but the lack of good scoring positions meant the score stayed 1-0 at half time. The second period was just 11 minutes old when substitute Steve Sutton latched onto a ball to steer it into the unguarded net as keeper and defence were caught napping. Both sides had chances to win the game but a draw was probably a fair result with the home team probably the happier as they stay 3 points clear of the relegation places. Reporters Summary : Even game played on a heavy pitch with both sides deserving of a share of the spoils.

A strange affair at the Topsham Sports Ground as 13th placed University of Exeter inflicted leaders Liverton United's 1st defeat in all competitions since 10 September with this 4-1 reversal and enabled the chasing pack to close the gap at the top of the East Division. The meagre crowd that had gathered on a cold, windswept afternoon must have left at full time questioning how United's run had come to such an ending where the scoreline simply did not reflect the possession and goal scoring chances that fell to both sides. Defensively United were all at sea in the 1st half and gifted the home team 2 poor goals to go in 1-2 down yet in the 2nd spell they were encamped in the home box squandering a string of guilt edged chances and realistically should have comfortably clawed their way back into it and been out of sight by the close of play. With just 12 players named on the Students teamsheet they shook the title favourites on 6 minutes when a cross from Andy Waddington was not dealt with by the United backline and Mike Dale poked the loose ball away from close range although normal service looked to have been resumed on 20 when Nick Thompson pushed Tom Sercombe in the back in the box and Liam McAuley tucked away the spot kick to restore parity. For all their possession United didn't look like finding that killer touch in attack and when asked questions defensively they were very uncharacteristically found wanting especially considering they had only let in 5 league goals in the previous 9 games. That hesitancy was highlighted 2 minutes before the break when a harmless looking cross from Thompson saw the men in blue pussy foot around with no one taking responsibility and Mattias Marriott had the easy task of passing the loose ball into the net past a helpless Liam Jones.
United made a tactical switch around at the break that saw Sam Green come on along with Darren Vickary making his United debut after his move from Stoke Gabriel but again sloppy defending just 6 minutes later saw a deep corner from Matt Langley not cleared and from close range the predator that is Ben Nash gleefully accepted the gift to really ask the question if this was their lucky day and would this be the men from Halfords 3rd league reversal of the campaign. Having not played since 26 November the home team were then put under heavy sustained pressure for the remainder of the game and their goal led a charmed life, Robbie Bowker and Sercombe both clattering the woodwork and as frustration grew and caution was thrown to the wind by United the homesters exploited the situation by breaking on 86, Marriot slipping a ball through to Langley and he calmly slotted the ball past Jones to complete a scoreline that wasn't merited - by either side. Reporters Summary: Possession never has and never will win you points, full credit must be given to University as they took their chances when they were given to them, as for the leaders a run of 34 points out of a possible 36, 4 high profile games including beating Tavistock in the Throgmorton Cup in their last game perhaps resulted in an "after the lord mayors show" result and sometimes you have to mark it as a bad day at the office and move on but this will always be a result that falls into the "where did that one come from" mould.
Premier Division Round Up :
Both of the top two, Launceston who were due to have hosted Dartmouth and Bodmin Town who should have been at Witheridge, saw their games postponed along with the Cullompton Rangers versus Penzance clash. The 7 games that were played saw all 3 promiotion applicants on duty with two winning but one, Falmouth Town, having their hopes take a serious dent as they lost for the 4th time this season as they went down 0-2 at home to Saltash United. The Ashes were taking full revenge for a Cup defeat last Monday and put themselves very much back in the frame in 4th place, just a point behind Falmouth and with a game in hand. The other two applicants closed the gap as Buckland Athletic were 2-0 winners at home to St Austell and Plymouth Parkway edged home 1-0 away at bottom side the Royal Marines. The only other winners in the top flight were Elburton Villa who beat Torpoint Athletic 2-1 at Haye Road and climbed 3 places to 12th on the back of the maximum points. Three games ended in score draws, St Blazey drew 3-3 away at Bovey Tracey to collect their first poibnts since November when they last played Bovey Tracey ! Ivybridge Town maintained the 3 point gap over the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw at home to Camelford and it was also 1-1 at Lux Park where Liskeard Athletic and Tavistock had to share the spoils.
Division One East Round-Up
With leaders Liverton suffering a first defeat since September as they went down 1-4 away at the University of Exeter, their nearest challengers all won to close the gap. Exmouth Town pulled level on points with Liverton after coming from behind to win 3-1 at Teignmouth. Stoke Gabriel in 3rd kept in touch with a 2-0 win at bottom side Axminster Town whilst Alphington climbed a place to 4th. The Alphas were 4-3 winners in a 7 goal thriller away at Sidmouth Town whilst Okehampton who were in 3rd spot had their game at home to Totnes & Dartington postponed. Two sides further down the table both enjoyed away wins with Galmpton United winning 4-2 away at Budleigh Salterton to stay in 6th spot and Crediton United climbing a place to 8th after winning 3-1 away at Appledore. One side taking home advantage was Newton Abbot Spurs who had a slender 1-0 win over Ottery St Mary at the Recreation Ground.
Division One West Round-Up :
Leaders Newquay started 2012 as runaway leaders and red hot favourites to win promotion to the Premier Division and after the first matchday of the calendar year they are even closer to their goals. The Peppermints are now a full 10 points clear of 2nd spot after a 9-1 win away at Porthleen this afternoon, the biggest away win in the division all season. 2nd placed Helston Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Penryn Athletic whilst Vospers Oak Villa took advantage of 3rd placed Godolphin not having a game to climb back into 3rd spot themselves with a 2-0 win away at lowly Perranporth. 7th placed Dobwalls were the next highest placed team to win as they won 1-0 at 6th placed Hayle. Truro City climbed two places to 8th with a 2-1 win at home to St Dennis whilst Foxhole Stars moved up into the top 10 with a 1-0 win away at Plymstock United. Wadebridge Town were able to "leap-frog" theirs guests today as the Bridgers beat Holsworthy 2-0 at Bodieve Park and climb above the Magpies in the table.

Throgmorton Cup 3rd Round
LIVERTON UNITED 1 TAVISTOCK 0
(Phil Hiscox)
Division One East outfit Liverton United are through to the last 8 of the Throgmorton League Cup after knocking out Premier outfit Tavistock 1-0 at Halford on this New Years Bank Holiday Monday. The all important goal came as early as the 4th minute and saw Tom Sercombe claim the goal as it was his strike that took a deflection off a Lambs defender to deceive keeper Andy Meeds. The hosts were the better side throughout the first half but suffered a setback 9 minutes before the interval when they were reduced to 10 men after Dan Kingscote picked up his 2nd yellow card. The 10 men should have made the game safe early in the second half as Glenn Palmer rounded keeper Meeds and somehow managed to shoot over the bar when faced with an open goal from 8 yards out. Tavistock did put some pressure on the home defence as they sought a late leveller but Liam Jones and the home defence dealt with the threat and their scariest moment came when Andy Sargent went down in a crowded penalty box in injury time but the referee was on the spot and waived away the visitors appeals for a spot kick. Reporters Summary : The Liverton players put in a real shift to not only win but to keep a 2nd clean sheet in 72 hours on a heavy surface, the visitors came close late on but their efforts were too little and too late to avoid a cup exit.
Throgmorton Cup Round-Up :
With 5 of the 8 ties postponed, including the Stoke Gabriel v Penzance tie where the quarter final draw was to have been staged, the New Year had a wet and miserable start. However alongside Liverton's cup shock two other ties were completed with bith being all Premier Division clashes. Former winners Buckland Athletic romped through to the last 8 with a 5-0 success at home to a Camelford side who were making their first appearance at Homers Heath, having not yet visited in the league since their promotion last summer. At Kimberley Stadium a cracking 8 goal thriller of a cup tie was served up with visitors Falmouth Town defeating hosts Saltash United by a 5-3 margin. The visitors had Dan Green scoring twice along with goals from Darren Hicks, Matt Drummond and Jamie Devine. The hosts played their part in this cup classic as Toby Clark scored once and Ross Saint twice in return.

LIVERTON UNITED 2 GALMPTON UNITED 0
(Phil Hiscox)
Reigning Champions Liverton United finished off 2011 as firm favourites to retain their crown after a dream day, results wise, for the Halford club. On the pitch they gained revenge for an August defeat at Galmpton by beating the 6th placed visitors 2-0 but away from Halford they were further helped by 2nd placed Exmouth Town losing at home and 3rd placed Stoke Gabriel being held to a draw on their own turf. Livertons' 2-0 win was hard earnt in a sometimes physical and feisty derby that was well controlled by referee Jason Haywood. The all important goals came on the half hour through Liam McAuley and with the visitors pushing hard for a late leveller the hosts sealed the win with a 90th minute winner bundled home from close range by substitute Tom Sercombe. Reporters Summary : Liverton edged this local derby with Galmpton and go into the 2nd half of the season as firm favourites to retain their title.

ALPHINGTON 5 BUDLEIGH SALTERTON 2
(Phil Hiscox)
Alphington remain in 5th but closed the gap on 3 of the 4 sides above them with this convincing win over Budleigh Salterton. The early kick off at the Chronicles was just 10 minutes old when Ryan Leverton opened the scoring and before the clock struck midday it was 3-0 after Levertons cross was turned into his own net by Robins defender Mike Hancock and Leverton had again been the provider as Dave Wilkes shot home. To be fair to Budleigh they threatened to get back into the game with a goal either side of the interval as Jack Greenslade made it 3-1 on 41 minutes and two minutes after the break Mark Lever reduced the arrears further. The hosts were not to be denied the win though as Leverton scored twice more to make it 5-2 and complete his hat-trick. Reporters Summary : Alphington showed why they have found a rich vein of form with an attacking display that the visitors had no answer to.
Premier Division :
Just two of the five scheduled games in the top flight were played after games at Bodmin Town, Plymouth Parkway and Tavistock fell victim to the weather. The two surviving matches did both have an impact on the table though with Western League promotion applicants Buckland and Falmouth both in action. Both staged matches and kept alive their aspirations with victories. Falmouth were 2-1 winners over Camelford at Bickland Park and they stay in 3rd spot just 3 points behind Bodmin. Buckland were 3-2 winners over the previously in-form Elburton Villa. The win lifts the Homers Heath club a place to 6th and they still have games in hand over all the other 19 sides in the division.
Division One East :
Six of the seven East matches were completed today, the only casualty being at Okehampton Argyle. It proved to be a good day for Liverton United who beat Galmpton United 2-0 and moved 3 points clear at the top of the table after Exmouth Town were surprisingly beaten 4-2 at home by a Newton Abbot Spurs side who moved up 3 places to 10th as a result of the win. Stoke Gabriel in 3rd had to settle for a solitary point as they drew 3-3 with Totnes & Dartington at the Churchward Ground. Alphingtons 5-2 win over Budleigh Salterton keeps the Chronicles club in 5th and lower down the table two sides pulled away from the bottom two by winning their matches against the two bottom sides. Sidmouth Town had a much needed 5-1 win over Axminster Town despite going a goal behind early on and Exeter Civil Service survived a 2nd half fight back to win 3-2 away at lowly Ottery St Mary.
Division One West :
Two of the seven West matches were postponed as their was no play at either Callington Town or at St Dennis. The top two sides however both played and both won, although they were both in action against the bottom two sides. Leaders Newquay were 4-1 winners away at Perranporth whilst Helston Athletic were made to work hard for the points by bottom club Mousehole before edging home 2-0 at Trungle Parc. Godolphin Atlantic climbed a place to 3rd after a 3-1 home win over Porthleven whilst Hayle remain in 6th spot despite collecting maximum points from a 3-2 home win over Truro City. One game ended all square as Dobwalls and Holsworthy drew 1-1 at Lantoom Park to earn a point each.

CULLOMPTON RANGERS 0 LAUNCESTON 4
(Phil Hiscox)
Launceston will be top of the table on the 1st day of 2012 after this evenings 4-0 win away at Cullompton Rangers saw the visitors pull out a 5 point gap at the top of the division. On a heavy pitch the Launceston forwards made light work of the home defence in the first half with a goal after just 2 minutes from Chris Head giving them the lead and it was Head again that doubled the lead midway through the half. Sam Scott added a third just before the interval to make it 3-0 and the scoring was completed 7 minutes after the break through Adam Yeo. Cully had quite a lot of possession and created several good chances of their own but the Clarets defence held firm to record a clean sheet. Cully were reduced to 10 men, 12 minutes from time, after Kai Fisher spoke out of turn to one of the assistant referees and was promptly red carded. Reporters Summary : A very professional performance by Launceston, strong at the back and lethal on the counter-attack. The Thursday night option however did bring the home side in a crowd of nearly 100 with several ground-hoppers taking in the unusual night for football.

BOVEY TRACEY 0 BUCKLAND ATHLETIC 6
(Nigel Call)
In front of a Christmas crowd at the Western Counties roofing Ground of 226, Buckland Athletic got their season back on track. After just 5 minutes Bucklands season was well on the way again. With the whistle blown Bovey flew out of the blocks and put Buckland on the back foot, but after a spoilt chance by Smith, Buckland took advantage on 3 minutes when Buckler in the Bovey goal blocked Wrights shot and the rebound hit Bovey defender Pascoe to head an unfortunate own goal. The lead was extended on 5 minutes and again Bovey were at the receiving end of an unfortunate decision when defender, and Buckland target, Ben Head handled in the area from a Revell cross and was shown a red card. Dean Stevens duly dispatched from the spot. Even with the numerical advantage, Buckland failed to stamp there authority on the game and the initial 5 minutes of madness left Bovey going in at the half time break 2 goals down. The 2nd half was similar to the first, with 10 man Bovey having a lot of possession but failing to create, Buckland with the numerical advantage though took the bull by the horns and extended their lead on 59 minutes when Chris Wright scrambled home following a right wing cross. Within 2 minutes the lead could have been extended further when Lynch headed down for Booth who was deemed to be offside, however, player/manager Lynch took full advantage on 75 minutes to volley home from close range to give Buckland a 4 goal advantage. Lynch was withdrawn and long term injury victim Gavin Hammon was introduced to full effect when on 81 minutes a deflected shot found the back of the net and again on 86 Hammon slid in to convert an easy chance from Moseleys cross. REPORTERS SUMMARY: Bovey found themselves 2 down with 10 players within the first 5 minutes, with Bovey's new manager Leigh Robinson installed for his first game in charge in an impossible situation, Buckland took full advantage to get their season back on track.

WITHERIDGE 1 CULLOMPTON RANGERS 2
(Phil Hiscox)
Witheridge again proved to be the perfect hosts to their local mid-Devon rivals, Cullompton Rangers. After Cully had won at Edge Down Park in the Throgmorton Cup they followed it up with a victory on a 2nd visit in the Devon St Lukes Bowl and here on Boxing Day morning it was Cully who again claimed the win making it an unlikely hat-trick. The visitors opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Aaron Doble got the final touch to a goalmouth scramble and then doubled the lead just 4 minutes later. This goal was scored from much further out as Brett Worbeys 35 yard free kick deceived all including home keeper Mike Searle as it sailed into the top corner. Witheridge came out after the interval in determined mood and reduced the arrears 9 minutes into the 2nd half through Tony Radfords near post header. Chances went begging at both ends as the game reached full time but any chance of a leveller were curtailed when home striker Richard Blake was sent off in the last minute for retaliation. Reporters Summary : Cully just about edged the win and local bragging rights but the home side will feel they could have gained a point with a bit more luck.

NEWTON ABBOT SPURS 1 LIVERTON UNITED 3
(Mark Hayman)
An end to end affair at the Recreation Ground saw the home side ask questions about the leaders title credentials in what was an entertaining contest before Liverton United ran out 3-1 winners. Spurs shook their neighbours on 16 minutes when Luke Forbes drilled the ball home at the far post although the lead only lasted 8 minutes as Shane Shobrook rounded Jason Kinsman to slot home. Despite the greater possession in the 1st half United couldn't find the way through until 52 seconds of the second spell when former Spurs favourite Tom Sercombe steered the ball home and the points were safe on 81 when Robbie Bowker let fly from outside the box beyond the keeper and in off the post. Reporters Summary : Spurs showed why they have only lost 2 league games since September 6th with a plucky display although United will be happy to remain in top spot after a testing fixture on a Bank Holiday, a day they traditionally don't do very well on.
Premier Division :
A solitary Launceston goal was enough to give the Clarets a 1-0 win over Tavistock and maintain their lead of the table despite some mighty charges being made below them. Four challengers had a good festive fixture today to keep the pressure firmly on. Title favourites Bodmin Town in 2nd spot romped to a 5-1 win away at Camelford in the first Boxing Day derby between these two sides. Falmouth Town climbed a place to 3rd after a 4-0 win away at Penzance whilst Saltash United leap-frogged todays visitors Liskeard Athletic after the Ashes ran out 3-1 winners at Kimberley Stadium. Buckland Athletic climbed a place to 7th with games in hand on all above them with a 6-0 thrashing of Bovey Tracey at Mill Marsh Park. Two sides who saw their hopes dampened today were Liskeard as they went down against Saltash but most surprisingly Plymouth Parkway were beaten for just the 3rd time this season as they lost 2-1 away at 15th placed Elburton Villa in the Plymouth city derby. Elsewhere St Austell moved to 9th and claimed the bragging rights after winning 5-2 at St Blazey in front of an estimated crowd of more than 250 at Blaise Park. St Blazey remain bottom although the Royal Marines also lost today, going down 1-0 in a close game away at Torpoint Athletic. The lowest place side to win were Cullompton Rangers who were 2-1 victors at Witheridge which lifts them a place to 16th.
Division One East :
The East programme of 7 matches were all completed with no postponements affecting any of the matches which were all morning kick offs. Joint leaders Liverton United and Exmouth Town both won on the Road and both moved onto 40 points. Liverton were 3-1 victors at Newton Abbot Spurs whilst Exmouth Town romped to a 5-0 win away at coastal rivals Budleigh Salterton. Stoke Gabriel climbed a place to 3rd and stayed within 4 points of the leaders with a 3-1 win, again on the Road, as they defeated Galmpton United. Okehampton Argyle slipped a place to 4th after drawing 2-2 away at Crediton United, this was Okeys 8th draw so far this season. Alphington climbed a place to 5th after winning 2-1 away at cross City rivals, Exeter Civil Service with all the goals coming after the break. Totnes & Dartington were the only home side to record a win as they beat Teignmouth 3-0 and at the bottom of the table Ottery St Mary climbed off the bottom and above Axminster Town after they gained their 1st win of the season, at the 18th attempt, with a 4-2 success at Axminster who now occupy the bottom position themselves.
Division One West :
A crowd of 607 was in attendance at Mount Wise for the high noon derby between host Newquay and Godolphin Atlantic. This is the 2nd highest crowd in the leagues history and will probably be the highest Step 7 attendance anywhere in England this season. The fans got some early goal action as Luke Weldhen gave the hosts the lead but the visitors levelled through Phil Lowry all inside the opening 10 minutes, with no further goals a 1-1 draw was the outcome. Helston Athletic in 2nd spot narrowed the gap to 8 points as they won 2-1 away at Porthleven in the first league meeting between the two sides for 20 years when they were both Combination League sides. Vospers Oak Villa in 3rd were held to a goalless draw by Plymstock United in the Plymouth derby whilst Penryn and Dobwalls remain in 5th & 6th after their games were both postponed. One side marching up the table are Hayle who climbed three places to 6th after a 4-0 away win at bottom side Mousehole this afternoon. Perranporth remain down with Mousehole in the bottom 2 after they lost 6-0 away ay a Wadebridge Town side who were winning just their 3rd game this season. Foxhole Stars in 11th and St Dennis in 13th had on paper no real pedigree but with St Dennis new in the league they were able to restore rivalry with neighbouring China Clay country village Foxhole for the first time in 5 years. The braging rights went to the new boys with a 2-0 win at Goverseth Park.

Cornwall Senior Cup :
The last action before Christmas Day saw three outstanding Cornwall Senior Cup ties resolved. Saltash United booked themselves a trip to neighbours Callington Town after a 3-0 win away at fellow Premier side St Blazey. Matt Cusack scored twice and Marc Thorne once as the Ashes gained revenge for an FA Cup defeat at Blaise Park earlier in the season. Torpoint Athletic were also 3-0 winners as they beat Dobwalls at Mill Park with Brian Stacey scoring twice after Josh Grant had opened the scoring. Torpoint now host Truro City next month. The all West tie at Kernick saw Penryn Athletic beat Wadebridge Town 3-1 to earn a home tie with Combination outfit Illogan.

Devon St Lukes Bowl
PLYMOUTH PARKWAY 1 BIDEFORD 1 (Bideford Won on Pens)
(Nigel Call)
Plymouth Parkway bowed out of the Devon St Lukes Bowl in an unlucky fashion after matching Southern League South & West table toppers, Bideford. After a goalless first half at a wet Bolitho Park it was Parkwy who took the lead when Ben Joyce opened the scoring after 62 minutes. The visitors drew level some 6 minutes later when Jamie Mudge found the target. At 90 minutes and with the score 1-1 the game went straight to penalties, extra time is not used in the St Lukes. The regulation first 5 spot kicks for each side saw both sides score 3 each meaning a sudden death penalty shoot out. Sam Hillson for Parkway failed to score and that gave Jack Furzer the chance to send Bideford through to the last 8 and knock brave Parkway out.
